Run the Example

Set up your virtual environment

uv venv --python 3.12
source .venv/bin/activate

Install dependencies

uv pip install -U "agno[os]" openai

Export your OpenAI API key

export OPENAI_API_KEY="your_openai_api_key_here"

Get the complete skill bundle

Clone the source so basic.py retains its adjacent skill files. Run the remaining commands from the repository root:

git clone https://github.com/agno-agi/agno.git
cd agno
git checkout v3.0.4

The required layout is:

cookbook/05_agent_os/23_skills/
  basic.py
  sample_skills/system-info/
    SKILL.md
    scripts/get_system_info.py
    scripts/list_directory.py

Saving only basic.py leaves the skill list empty because the loader cannot find this bundle.

Run the example

Start the server from the repository root:

python cookbook/05_agent_os/23_skills/basic.py

Run the skill client

Keep the server running. Open another terminal in the parent directory where .venv and the cloned agno directory are siblings. Activate the same environment, enter the checkout, and run the client:

source .venv/bin/activate
cd agno
python cookbook/05_agent_os/23_skills/basic.py --demo

Repeat any server URL overrides in this terminal. The client asks the model to execute the system-information script and checks its returned fields; it raises if the model does not choose the required tools.
